Lipotherapy offers spot reduction of body fat in a non invasive, minimally painful way. Also known as Mesotherapy, this non surgical liposuction alternative can also reduce cellulite with no down time. This means the patient can go in for the treatment and immediately return to work.
What is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy was developed over 50 years ago by a French doctor and since has been widely adopted by many physicians around the world. It is a medical specialty used to treat a variety of physical ailments including sports injuries by selecting the appropriate chemical compound. For the purpose of fat reduction, it is known as Lipotherapy and can remove a very small deposit of fat as a non invasive liposuction alternative to produce body contouring results.
How Lipotherapy Works
Mesotherapy uses the injection of a unique compound containing enzymes, amino acids and other chemicals. The amount used is actually just a very small drop injected just below the deep layer of the skin where it stays as it is slowly absorbed into the fatty layer. The chemical reacts with the fat molecules to break it into a fatty substance that is released by the fat cells. The released liquefied fat is metabolized naturally by the body and removed along with other toxins and bodily waste.
Since the injection works slowly, there is a little to no pain or discomfort and results will continue to improve for several weeks after the treatment. A single treatment session will last about 20 to 30 minutes and patients will require multiple injections before the treatment is completed.
The small dosages makes it safer than almost any other type of treatment. It is especially effective in small areas of the body such as areas of the face. Lipotherapy can be a substitute for facial liposuction when a full surgical procedure is not necessary.
Pre-Treatment Preparations
Before any treatment begins, the patient must first complete a routine medical lab examination to determine if Mesotherapy is the right solution for their goals. During the medical exam, the patient is tested for allergic reactions to particular compounds and their bodily fluid composition is assessed. There are a variety of solutions that can produce the same results and the right solution will be selected based on the results of the medical lab exam to best match the patient’s bodily fluid composition and avoid potential allergens.
Safer Than Other Solutions
A popular injection treatment in the United States to reduce body fat is Lipodissolve. The method of execution might sound similar but the two treatments are very different. Mesotherapy injects just a drop of the solution so it is safer and much less painful. Lipodissolve uses a chemical called phosphatidyl choline which is the irritation, swelling and redness that causes much discomfort and is injected deeper directly into the fat layer.
Some mesotherapist will use a solution containing phosphatidyl choline but it is the patient’s right to know what is contained in the injection and to request something that does not contain this active ingredient. It is important to ask a lot of questions and find a new mesotherapist to perform the Lipotherapy treatment if they do not make you feel comfortable about what your treatment entails.
Limitations of Non Surgical Lipo
Lipotherapy is obviously safer than liposuction surgery because it is a non invasive way to sculpt and reduce body fat. But being a non surgical lipo solution means that the effectiveness is limited to very small pockets of body fat and a full surgical procedure is still necessary for patients that want to remove larger quantities of fat.
